Veteran Actor and Sitting MP of BJP from Gurdaspur died today after battling cancer. He was 70 years old.
Vinod Khanna was born in a Punjabi Family in Peshawar (Now in Pakistan) on 6 October 1946. The family moved to Mumbai after partition and he did his studies in Mumbai, Delhi, and Nazis. During his college days, he developed affection for acting.
In 1968, he debuted in Bollywood through Sunil Dutt starter “Man Ka Meet” in which he played the main antagonist. In his early days in silver screen, he used to play supporting roles and villain roles. In 1971, he got a break as a hero through “Hum Tum Aur Woh”. That was the beginning of a new hero in Bollywood. His role as an army officer in Gulzar directed “Achanak” received many critical applauses.
Later he acted in many hit films as solo hero and also appeared in almost 47 multi-hero films. During 1974-82, has paid more than Jitendra and then superstar Amitabh Bachchan in many films. When he was the peak of his career, he took a break from acting and became a hardcore follower of Osho Rajneesh. However, his spiritual life did not last for more time as he came back to Bollywood with “Insaaf” in 1987 in which he has been paired against Dimple Kapadia. In his second stint in Bollywood, he acted in Romantic films more.
In 1999, he received Film Fare Award for lifetime achievement and after that, he has acted in fewer films. The last film he acted was Dilwale along with Shah Rukh Khan. In 1997 he entered into politics by joining Bharatiya Janata Party and became MP from Gurdaspur constituency. Later he became minister of state for external affairs in Vajpayee ministry. Although he lost in 2009 elections, he has been elected in 2014 from the same constituency and at present, he represents Gurdaspur in Lok Sabha.
In April this year, he has been admitted to hospital and the cause told was dehydration. However, there was a rumor that he was battling cancer for some years. Recently the news of his deteriorating health with a photo of his created havoc in social media. Today morning he died after fighting the dreaded diseases for a long time.
